The first thing we can notice when staying in Ogulin and its surroundings is the vast expanse of forests that surround it. Therefore, with this ride, we will visit one of the many forests in the area.

The route begins in the center of Ogulin and soon starts with an ascent that takes us over the hill to Popovo polje, where we enter the dense forests. The road to Popovo polje is very pleasant for cycling as we rarely encounter other vehicles. After approximately 9 km, we turn off the main road onto a narrower road and soon enter a vast forest.

We continue cycling on excellent macadam roads that are often supported by sturdy retaining walls. Our path is canopied by the dense forest foliage, which provides different pleasures in various seasons. In the summer, it offers refreshment; in the autumn, an exciting palette of colors; and in the spring, the vibrancy of nature’s awakening and its scents.

After 17.5 km, the route emerges onto an asphalt road and soon begins to descend towards the Dobra River.

In the village of Hreljin Ogulinski, we pass under the railway and continue across a bridge over the Dobra River. During periods of heavy rain, this section of the river can flood, making the road impassable. If the bridge over the Dobra is flooded, one should continue from the village of Hreljin Ogulinski along the D42 road to Ogulin.

Further on, we pass through the village of Brestovac Ogulinski and soon connect with the “Easy bike ride through the valleys of the Dobra and Vitunjčica rivers” route, which leads us toward Ogulin.

The route mostly runs along quiet roads and partly on macadam surfaces. There are numerous spots to take a break and enjoy the natural beauty. However, it is essential to carry enough food and water, as there are no places along the way to replenish supplies.

How to get to the start

The bike route begins in Ogulin’s town centre, just a short distance from the train station. This makes it incredibly easy to arrive by rail and start pedaling right away!
