This route takes us along the tracks of the historical train Samoborček. The Samoborčke train connected Samobor with Zagreb in the period from 1901 to 1979. Today, one can find some remnants of Samborček’s existence, which serves different purposes (bicycle path, house, footpath, steam locomotive …), and a steam locomotive with a couple of wagons rests in the Južno naselje of Samobora.
A bicycle path has been built on a good part of the Samoborček route, which enables us to pedal easily and safely to Samobor. Today, Samobor is a popular cycling destination and during the weekend in its centre we will meet numerous cyclists of different orientations. In the centre of Samobor, you can stop and rest. Drink coffee in good company and fill up your water bottle.
In the second part of the route, we will pass through the ornithological reserve Sava – Strmec and lake Strmec and soon after along lake Orešje, a popular promenade in the west of Zagreb.
The route largely passes through bicycle paths and roads with very little traffic. The surface is partly asphalt, partly macadam.
We can easily combine this route with the route along the embankments of the Sava River and the ornithological reserve Sava – Strmec.
How to get to the start
The beginning of the route is located in Podsused, near the railway station. That is why it is best to take advantage of taking a bike on train.
