The area along the river Sava is attractive for numerous birds that live in this area or just pass through on their journey. That is why the area along Sava and Strmac area has been a protected ornithological reserve since 1971, where numerous species of birds have found their home. If you don’t like cycling, you can get to know the reserve on foot along an educational trail.
The route starts next to the Podsused railway station and takes us along Lake Orešje (a peaceful oasis of nature near the city) through the reserve and further along the Sava embankment to the ferry across river. The ferry across the Sava River (Medsave) is the only remaining ferry in this area.
On the way back, but by a different route, we cycle back through the reserve and along Lake Orešje.
The route mostly passes through gravel roads and roads with very little traffic.
This route can be easily combined with route Along the tracks of the historical train Samoborček.
How to get to the start
The beginning of the route is located in Podsused, near the railway station. That is why it is best to take advantage of taking a bike on train.
