Sava Gravel family ride

Riding a bicycle along almost any river can be pleasant and anyone can cycle it, because the terrain along the river is mostly flat. That’s why we decided to spend the day cycling on macadams along the Sava river in the Slovenian part.

We started our cycling in Dobova, from where we boarded the morning train to the Zidan Most. In the village of Rateče, we got off the train and headed along the Sava.

We chose the cycle along the Sava because the ride passes through beautiful nature, and we drive along the river the whole time, and the surface is excellent and easy to cycle on. We cycle in the spring when nature woke up and everything around us is green. Cycling in autumn is also beautiful in its own way.

For resting, we chose (in our case) the villages of Blanca, Brestanica (railway station) and Brežice, but you can choose your resting spot yourself, because there are many of them.

If the length of the ride does not suit you, i.e. you want to shorten or shorten the ride, a railway line runs nearby and we often come across stations. The passenger train runs regularly and frequently.

Since the ride is mostly on macadams, we recommend that you ride on a gravel or mtb bike with tires min. 35 mm wide. On short sections, we cycle on the road with other participants, so pay attention. Be careful during the summer when temperatures are very high during the day, then we do not recommend driving due to the heat.
